In the rain-fed lands of North Karnataka and the desert plains of Kutch, something ancient is growing — a cotton that doesn't cost the earth.
Earlier this year in India, we discovered two different cotton communities dedicated to regenerative cotton practices.
So we bought them together for a complimentary range.

Two Cotton Communities - One Collection
Kandu Cotton
Rooted in the red earth of North Karnataka, grown by a small community of farmers (many of them women), Kandu cotton, is as much a movement as it is a fabric.
Forged by the public trust of UDAANTA Association, this fabric stands for agricultural social justice by empowering farmers with a resilient crop.
KANDU (which means “brown” in Kannada) is a return to ancestral wisdom and the timeless principles of care, community, and respect for the earth.
What is Brown Cotton?
India is the world's largest cotton exporter, yet cotton farmers remain among the most vulnerable; brown cotton is a return to regenerative care.
An incredible alternative to common white cotton, it is a resilient, planet-positive fabric, with deep roots in the land.
Kala Cotton
Grown in the arid landscapes of Gujarat's Kutch region, Kala cotton is a genetically pure fabric cultivated through ancient, indigenous farming techniques.
It is a resilient, planet-positive fabric, thriving in the challenging salt-rich soil of Kutch without the need for synthetic chemicals or artificial interventions.
Kala Cotton is an initiative of Khamir Craft Resource Centre, a platform dedicated to preserving traditional craft and cultural ecology of the area. We are honoured to be working with Khamir to help pave a sustainable fabric future and empower farming communities.
Kandu and Kala aren’t just cottons. They are acts of resistance.
They represent a dream—of reviving rural livelihoods, empowering women-led weaving communities, and nurturing a new generation of wearers who choose empathy, equity, and Earth.
