Rabari embroidery is a vibrant textile art form characterised by intricate mirror work and bold patterns.

Traditionally, Rabari women begin learning embroidery at a young age, creating pieces for their dowries and daily use. The designs often depict aspects of their pastoral lifestyle, mythology, and the natural environment, serving as a visual narrative of their cultural heritage.

Geeta, from the Rabari community of Kachchh, grew up without learning embroidery — a tradition once essential for women before marriage. The practice was later abandoned as it delayed marriages and was costly for families.

After her marriage in 2022, she became interested in her mother-in-law’s embroidery and began learning the craft. With consistent practice, she started selling her handcrafted embroidered pieces.

To deepen her skills, Geeta completed studies at Somaiya Kala Vidya, a modern design school in Kachchh. She views Rabari embroidery as a vital part of her identity, inspired by nature and traditional designs. Her goal is to develop her craft into a business, creating and selling her own embroidered products while preserving her cultural heritage.
