Artisan Craftmanship
ABOUT THE BRAND
Founded in 2012, Kullvi Whims is dedicated to celebrating the beauty of slow craftsmanship. They work with traditional craftsmen as their artisans, who have learned their skills of spinning, weaving, knitting, and crochet from family members, predominantly creating pieces for personal use, such as pattus, blankets, sweaters, mojiris, and socks. Aligned with the seasonal rhythms of mountain life, each Kullvi Whims piece embraces the deep connections between nature and craft.
Himalayan native Gaddis Wool
In collaboration with the Gaddis to procure their indigenous wool, this pastoral tribe of the Himalayas known for their unique shepherding practices. They traverse the high Himalayan ranges annually, covering thousands of kilometers with their sheep to migrate to traditional pastures. Each Kullvi Whims piece embodies the essence of the mountains as every piece undergoes a natural dyeing process with colours derived from local native flora. Every knitted or woven piece serves not only as a beautiful creation but also narrates the stories of its maker and the journeys undertaken across the breathtaking Himalayan landscape.
Artisan Empowerment through traditional skills
Kullvi Whims represents the Women of Himachal Self-Help Group from Kullu Valley, a name that beautifully encapsulates both the artisans' identity and the joy they derive from their craft. The "Whims" in the name signifies the unique personal touches that each woman adds to her woven and knitted pieces, reflecting their individuality and creativity in every motif and pattern.
By establishing a local value chain that honors the work of pastoralists and traditional artisans, Kullvi Whims champions sustainability, alternative economic systems, and the strengthening of local economies.
Care Instructions
gentle cold wash
We recommend gentle hand washing to preserve the natural texture and longevity of your wool piece. Immerse it in cold water and wash gently with care.
If you choose to use a washing machine, please do so at your own discretion — only on a dedicated wool cycle and with cold water, as wool is a delicate natural fibre that may react to agitation or heat.
Air Dry in Shade
After washing, avoid wringing it out and gently press out excess water instead to preserve the delicate textile quality and lay it flat or hang to air dry in a shaded area to prevent fading and protect the fabric from the harsh effects of direct sunlight.
Avoid harsh detergents
To preserve the integrity of the colors and material, opt for mild, gentle pH-neutral detergents that are suitable for delicate fabrics.
